Jodi Cleghorn is a Brisbane-based author with a penchant for the dark vein of humanity. Her writing leans into the lyrical and disruptive, moving between genres and forms, from cut-up poetry and flash fiction to novellas and novels. Music and the epistolary form have been part of her love affair with writing for four decades.
What I Left to Forget, her debut novel, is out on submission.
She’s currently working on the first in a trilogy of post-trauma romance novels set in Western Queensland while being (not-so-quietly) wooed by a gothic novella set in Far North Queensland.

From the outside it looks like Charlotte Mackay, up-and-coming music photographer and Jakob de Brito, legendary grunge front man, falling for each other. On the inside, it is undercover cop, AJ Monroe, living a dangerous double life with a man she has no right to be in love with. When AJ tries to walk away from her old life, she’s reeled back in to investigate a volatile fan by her former boss setting her two lives on a collision course.
If circumstances were different she’d tell Jakob the truth about what happened on the last night of the band’s tour and who she really is. She’d surrender fully to the love that terrifies. She’d trust his instinct about who she could become if she stopped hiding. But it doesn’t matter what Charlotte wants because AJ’s unleashed a nightmare from the underbelly.
Can AJ hold herself together long enough to fight the corruption closest to her or will her misguided integrity undo everything she’s risked with Jakob?
